Privacy Policy

HOS Trip Planner is local-first, and as of August 2026 it is local-only: your logs live on your device and stay there. There is no sign-in inside the app, no sync, no driver sharing and no subscription — the hosted service those needed was retired and the app was simplified rather than rebuilt around a new one. This page lists what the app keeps, the one thing it sends off the device to do its job, and what this website records when you download it.

What stays on your device

• Everything. Drivers, trips, duty logs, GPS trails, edit annotations, malfunction records, fuel purchases, settings, and generated PDFs are stored on your device and are never uploaded to us. There is no server holding a copy.
• Your drawn signature — same as everything else, it stays put. Nothing else can ever hold or apply it.
• You move your own data when you choose to: the PDFs, the roadside packet and the CSV export go wherever you send them — a printer, an email to your carrier, your own files.
• No advertising, no analytics, no trackers, no crash telemetry, no selling data — in the app or on this website.

The meddlingidiot.com account (this website, not the app)

Downloading the Windows installer from this website requires a free account. While the app is in beta, an email address is the whole price of it. The beta will end and the app will get a price — an affordable one — but this account holds the same three things either way. The account exists on this website only: the app never signs in to it, never sends it anything, and works exactly the same whether it exists or not. It holds:

• Your email address and a hash of your password — to sign you in and confirm the address.
• Whether you asked for product updates — a checkbox on the registration form, off unless you tick it.
• One line per download — which installer you took and when. No IP address, no browser fingerprint, no referrer.

That is the complete list, and it is never sold, rented, or shared with anyone. Deleting the account deletes the download history with it. The browser version of the app needs no account at all.

Email we send you

• About your account — the confirmation link when you register, and a reset link if you ask for one. That is all, and it only happens because you did something.
• Occasional product updates — only if you ticked the box. Occasional means occasional: when something ships or something breaks, not on a schedule someone invented to hit a number.

Your address is never passed to a mailing-list company, an ad network, or anyone else. Untick the box, or delete the account, and the product mail stops.

The one thing the app sends off your device

ProMiles — routing, mileage, and location lookups. Planning a route, resolving a GPS fix to a nearby city, or searching for fuel and parking sends the relevant coordinates or place names to ProMiles' servers, because that is not a question a laptop in a truck can answer by itself. We do not send your identity with them, and nothing about your duty log goes along for the ride. It is the only third party the app talks to: there is no payment processor any more, because there is nothing to pay for.

Deleting your data

• App data: delete drivers or trips in the app, or uninstall it. Since we never had a copy, that is genuinely the end of it — there is nothing for us to delete on your behalf and no request for you to file.
• Your meddlingidiot.com account: delete it yourself from your account page on this website. Your email address, your updates preference and your download history all go with it.

What this app is not

HOS Trip Planner is not a registered ELD (electronic logging device) and does not transmit anything to the FMCSA or any government system. It produces the paper records 49 CFR §395.34 requires while a driver's ELD is being repaired or replaced, and helps plan and audit hours.
